Imagine spending December that feels like an eternal holiday. A dreamy escape.

Driving past scenic landscapes of Makgoebaskloof, mesmerised by lush valleys, game and enchanted in the boisterous laughter of waterfalls. Hiking at the beautiful Waterberg District and indulging in indigenous art exhibitions and traditional cuisine in the northern most district in Vhembe.

Limpopo premier, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, says you don’t have to imagine this but you can experience it in her province, which offers all bar a beach.

Ramathuba has launched the province’s December holidays tourism campaign dubbed - Limpopo Ka Dizemba (Limpopo in December) – to lure tourists to visit the province for a jam-packed festive season.

Picturesque landscapes, the Big Five, mystical culture and history aside, the province also offers big events for everyone. Sport fanatics, music lovers and bikers also have something to look forward such as the the annual Sapa Yopa celebration, the Mapungubwe Festival and the Likompo Youth Festival.

The Peter Mokaba Stadium will be hosting the Confederations Cup match between Kaizer Chiefs and Egyptian giants, Zamalek, and the 2025 Carling Black label Cup Final, featuring Orlando Pirates and Marumo Gallants.

Ramathuba said that the province had to broaden its horizons to remain competitive.  “We need stronger partnerships to bid for and host major events. Limpopo remains Africa’s Eden, a province blessed with breath-taking landscapes, abundant wildlife, unmatched cultural diversity, heritage sites of global significance, and the only place in the world that proudly hosts the Big Six, which includes the iconic Baobab Tree. These are powerful assets that should give us confidence as we compete for major events and conferences,” Ramathuba said.

She said that the province has proven its capacity to host major events – corporate, government, business and religious.

“Limpopo’s greatest strength is its cultural and natural heritage,” Ramathuba said. “This is why village tourism must take centre stage as a driver of local economic development. We must use tourism as a tool to create jobs, strengthen small enterprises, and reduce poverty in rural communities.”

Ramathuba said that the province launched the Spring Campaign in Sekhukhune, featuring the hidden treasures of Ba-Dinkwanyana Village, the Sekweneng Tufa Rock and the Sethunyeng Hiking Trail, with their striking natural formations and perennial waterfalls that stand out as world-class attractions.

Ramathuba has praised FlySafair for introducing the Cape Town–Hoedspruit route, which is now operating at 70% capacity. “This confirms what we have always known: our province is unmatched when it comes to authentic safari experiences. We need more of such partnerships, and we must collectively work to ensure that tourism becomes a key driver of job creation and economic growth,” Ramathuba said.

She said that her government wanted  travellers - local and international - to re-imagine Limpopo as a year-round destination with endless possibilities.
