A private secretary of former Mpumalanga premier, Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane, was allegedly involved in forging a contract extension of a departmental head.
The People’s Eye understands that Ntone Molelekoa is the official who has deposed an affidavit confirming that he was paid about R80 000 to use Mtshweni-Tsipane’s electronic signature to extend the contract of fired Mpumalanga Culture, Sport and Recreation head, Godfrey Ntombela.
Premier Mandla Ndlovu has since terminated Ntombela’s contract. Ndlovu found that Ntombela’s contract was extended to September 2027 when he took over from Mtshweni-Tsipane as premier.
Ndlovu has indicated that his predecessor, who is now chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, claimed she did not know about the extension of Ntombela’s contract when he asked her for clarity after discovering that the HOD would stay in his job until 2017.
Without mentioning names, Ndlovu has said that an official who fraudulently used Mtshweni-Tsipane’s signature had confessed in an affidavit that is being investigated by police.
Mtshweni-Tsipane was reportedly overseas when the fraud was committed.
Molelekoa declined to comment when he was approached about the allegation. “Unfortunately, I have no comment. Please relay all queries to the Office of the Premier,” he said.
Sources told The People’s Eye that Molelekoa has apologised to Ndlovu and offered to co-operate with any investigation.
Ndlovu suspended Ntombela in April after receiving a damning Special Investigating Unit (SIU) report that exposed procurement irregularities valued at R4 million.
These irregularities related to monies siphoned through fake fumigation jobs, bogus food deliveries, and inflated invoices.
Ntombela has, in a huff, claimed that Ndlovu targeted him because of a teleprompter malfunction at the 2025 Metro FM Awards in Mbombela stadium. Ndlovu was announcing the song of the year when he suddenly could not see the words.
“I’m not the one who was scrolling that thing at the Mbombela Stadium. It’s called an autocue. It’s the SABC. They are running with the script. By the time you say other things, suddenly you want to be mad at me,” Ntombela had said at his media briefing a few weeks ago.
Sources indicated that Ntombela was also at a disadvantage of having his contract extended because he did not possess educational qualifications at an Honours Degree Level. He reportedly only has a B Proc Degree.
Ntombela has also declined to comment, indicating that he had taken his dispute with Premier Ndlovu to the Labour Court.
“Kindly note that the matter is sub judice and is currently at the Labour Court. In line with the sub judice rule, I’m not allowed to publicly discuss matters that are before the Court of Law,” he said.
